The queens puzzle is a short logic game with one rule set: put a crown in every row, every column and every coloured
region, and keep the crowns apart so no two touch, not even at a corner. Press Play above for today's puzzle, or tap
**New** for another one straight away. There is no daily limit.

## How to play the queens puzzle

The board is a square grid split into coloured regions, with as many regions as rows. Each needs exactly one crown.

- Tap a cell once to cross it out, twice to place a crown, and a third time to clear it.
- Drag across empty cells to cross out several at once.
- A crown that breaks a rule turns red, so mistakes show up straight away.

Every puzzle is checked when it is made and has exactly one solution. You never need to guess.

## Queens strategy in four steps

1. **Start with the smallest region.** It has the fewest places for its crown.
2. **Cross out around every crown.** The eight cells around a crown, plus the rest of its row, column and region,
   can never hold another crown.
3. **Look for regions stuck in one row or column.** That region owns the line, so cross out the rest of it.
4. **Count pairs.** If two regions both fit inside the same two columns, those columns are full. Cross out every
   other cell in them.

## Daily puzzle and board sizes

Choose a 7×7, 8×8 or 9×9 board. **Daily** gives everyone the same puzzle for the day in each size, and **New** makes
unlimited extra puzzles. When one crown per region gets easy, switch to **2 stars** for the harder version of the
same game, explained on the [Star Battle](https://rovixel.com/star-battle/) page.
