Adventure games trade reflexes for curiosity. Whether it is an escape room, a point-and-click mystery, or a small world to explore, the pleasure comes from figuring out what the designer has hidden — a locked door, a strange note, a machine that needs three parts to work.

Games in this category tend to be longer than the arcade picks, but most can still be finished in one or two sittings, and many run on a phone without compromise thanks to tap-to-move and drag-to-look controls. Where a game involves reading or fine pointing, the page notes that a tablet or desktop gives a better experience.
