Carrom is the tabletop flicking game that sits somewhere between pool and marbles: a striker, a pack of coins, four corner pockets, and two players taking turns. This version puts the whole board in the browser and gives each player the mouse when it is their turn.
How to play
Everything is played with the mouse. Pull the striker back to build up power, aim the line, and release. The coins scatter according to their own physics once the striker hits, so the shot you aimed and the shot you get are rarely identical. Players alternate turns until one of them has cleared their coins from the board.
Because it is turn based, nothing happens while you are thinking. That makes carrom one of the few two-player games in this collection with no reaction-time element at all: the whole match is planning, angles and restraint.
How matches are decided
The board rewards patience. Big shots look impressive and then leave the striker in a spot where your opponent can pot the coin you were lining up. Small shots keep the striker in play and keep the pack closed, which makes it harder for the other player to steal your position. Breaking the pack open is a decision, not an automatic first move.
Who it is for
Carrom suits two players who want a quiet, thoughtful game: it needs a mouse rather than touch, so a desktop or laptop is the natural place to play it. If you enjoy pool, snooker or any game where the angle matters more than the speed, this is the same pleasure in a smaller, faster package.
How to get a high score
- Aim at a coin, not at a pocket. The coin travels farther than the striker, so the angle matters more than the power.
- Short taps keep the striker on the board. A full-power shot that pots one coin and opens the pack usually costs you the next turn.
- Play for position as well as points: leave the striker where your opponent cannot reach their easiest coin.
- When the board gets crowded, pot the coins near your own pockets first — those are the shots with a plan B.
