New tab

Underwater 2D is a diving game where the pressure comes from the clock in your lungs. There is fish to catch down there, a required catch to complete the mission, and an oxygen tank quietly counting down the whole time.

How to play

You swim with WASD, interact with Space and use the hook with a left click. The mission is simple to state: collect the fish the dive requires and finish. The complication is that you cannot stay under indefinitely, so finding a refill zone before your air runs out is part of every plan.

The other half of the challenge is the environment. Fish drift through the same currents as hazardous, seaweed-like plants, and a single touch ends the mission. That turns the ocean into a reading exercise: which of these shapes is a target and which is a wall? In the eerie, alien-looking depths the game presents, telling them apart is genuinely unsettling the first time and second nature by the fifth dive.

Diving well

  • Locate a refill before you hunt. Air is a route, and routes are planned before you leave the surface.
  • Swim the open lanes. Cutting through plants is shorter and much more expensive.
  • Hook deliberately. Aim at one fish rather than lashing at several.
  • Turn back early. A dive that ends at the surface with air to spare is a dive you can repeat.

Who it is for

This is for players who like tension without a jump scare: a quiet, atmospheric dive with a resource to manage and no room for a careless second. Runs are short, the setting is memorable, and it works on both keyboard and touch.

How to get a high score

  1. Note the nearest refill zone before you chase fish. Oxygen is a route plan, not a panic button.
  2. Move through open water, not through the plants. Hazardous growth is the quiet run-ender.
  3. Hook one fish at a time rather than swinging at a shoal — accuracy costs less oxygen than enthusiasm.
  4. Leave the deep a little early. The swim back to air is part of the dive you have to budget for.

Questions

What ends a dive?

Running out of oxygen, or one wrong touch on the dangerous fish and hazardous plants drifting through the water. Both are avoidable with route planning rather than fast reactions.

How do I get more air?

Refill zones are scattered through the water. Finding one and remembering where it is matters more than any individual fish.

How many fish do I need?

Each dive has a required catch: collect that many to complete the mission, then get back out with whatever air you have left.
